MC students spending first week of holiday break helping New Orleans institution

Kate Gemmill has never met Craig Vogel, and probably won't.

But his enrolling in Marietta College this fall will indirectly make a lasting impression on Gemmill, a senior from Spring Grove, Pa.

Gemmill is one of three students who organized a week-long trip to New Orleans to help clean and rebuild Delgado Community College's City Park campus, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in September.

Marietta College's Petroleum Department hands out 23 scholarships

Twenty-three Marietta College students majoring in petroleum engineering were recently awarded academic scholarships ranging in value from $2,000 to $500 for a total of $20,895.

The Edwy R. Brown Department of Petroleum Engineering makes these awards in recognition of each student's strong academic effort in petroleum engineering as well as involvement in the Society of Petroleum Engineering and other activities.
