Returning alumni breathe new life into campus

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, then volumes upon volumes could be written about the special weekend in October that beckoned hundreds of alumni back to campus.

Kick-started by the Inauguration of Dr. Joseph W. Bruno, Homecoming 2012 gave alumni the opportunity to celebrate the past, rekindle old friendships and make a special visit to their home away from home — Marietta College.

Saturday’s events began with the annual Chuck Cornelius Memorial Fun Run and Walk, Alumni Rowing competition and Morning Hike at the Barbara A. Beiser ’49 Field Station. Those activities were followed by the Alumni Association Award Ceremony, which honored Carte Goodwin ’96 and Barbara Garneau Kelley ’81 as Distinguished Alumni, Heather Boomer ’09 and Seth Wolfson ’05 as Outstanding Young Alumni, Emma Vierheller ’12 with the Community Service Award, and Katy Smithberger with the Liz Tribett Service Award. Legendary Baseball Coach Don Schaly ’59 was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Honor.

Though the “W” went to the Ohio Northern Polar Bears on the football field, exciting news came at halftime when Brenna Goethel ’13 and Vincent Hendershot ’13 were crowned Homecoming royalty.

Afterward, the celebrations came full force as class receptions for the classes of 1967, 1972 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007 and contiguous years took place, for the first time, under one roof.

If you couldn’t attend or you did attend but forgot your camera, here are some photos taken during the special weekend. Enjoy!
