Community invited to make music at Marietta College

marietta-singersDust off your instrument and warm up your voice — Marietta College's Edward E. MacTaggart Department of Music has great musical opportunities for residents of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

If you love to sing and want to participate in a wonderful choral experience, the Oratorio Chorus at Marietta College will be having its first rehearsal of the fall semester from 7-9 p.m., Monday, Sept. 3.Rehearsals will be on the second floor of the Hermann Fine Arts Center. This will be the 86th year the Oratorio Chorus has performed Handel’s Messiah. The performance will be on Sunday, Dec. 2 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marietta. Marietta College's Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble have openings for community members interested in playing again. The groups will be rehearsing literature that includes band standards to the best in wind and percussion repertoire by today's finest band composers. The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble are comprised of college students, faculty members and community members. Rehearsals are from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday starting Aug. 27, in the Band Rehearsal Hall at the corner of Third and Butler streets. The Symphonic band and Wind Ensemble are directed by Marshall C. Kimball, Director of bands and Instrumental Activities and Associate Professor of Music. The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble present two concerts during the fall semester. The Fall Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, and the Holiday Concert, featuring both band and choral ensembles starting at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7. Both concerts will be held at Fenton Court.
