Marietta partners with Parkhurst Dining to offer food services

Following a yearlong evaluation of dining options, Marietta College has selected Parkhurst Dining to provide food services on campus starting July 1, 2012.
College administrators are excited about the new partnership, as Parkhurst has a strong tradition of providing quality food service to campuses similar in size to Marietta’s. Parkhurst has accounts at institutions such as Allegheny College, Bucknell University and Washington & Jefferson College, among many others.

“Our goals are to build a healthy partnership between Parkhurst and Marietta College that will always keep the food company focused on their customers,” said Dr. Bob Pastoor, Vice President for Student Life. “Just as the strategic plan states that the College is focused on distinction, we need our food service to be distinct as well. Our students need to have places on campus where they can eat healthy food, that is made from fresh products, and is cooked in such a way that the students will want to enthusiastically return.”
Parkhurst Dining, which is based in Homestead, Pa., is a leader in providing award-winning food service management. In addition to its higher education branch, Parkhurst’s parent company owns and operates the Eat’n Park restaurants.
Through FarmSource™, Parkhurst’s sustainable sourcing program, its food is procured from more than 200 of the finest local growers, family-owned farms and producers of food within a 125-mile radius of its service areas. This greatly reduces the distance food travels from harvest to table.
“Parkhurst Dining is proud to partner with Marietta College. We are excited to provide the students, faculty and guests with a variety of healthy options prepared from scratch by our creative culinary teams,” said Bill Albright, Parkhurst Dining Vice President, Education. “Everything we prepare is from scratch, including soups made from stocks, not base; fresh dough pizza and burgers that are fresh, never frozen.”
Albright said guests will also enjoy the variety on Parkhurst menus.
“Everything from comfort foods, culturally diverse, to on the go! students can expect a creative mix of dining options to select from and served with excellent customer service,” he said. “We look forward to providing an authentic culinary experience.”
A team of faculty, staff and students worked together to pick the College’s new food vendor. Pastoor said the committee liked that Parkhurst promised to provide a fresh, healthy and personalized culinary approach to dining in addition to supporting the campus through a joint commitment that addresses environmental issues, sustainability and local agriculture.
“Dining services is an important part of campus life for students, faculty, and staff, and we need to provide the best possible food at a reasonable rate,” he said. “Dining on campus should provide all of us an opportunity to socialize with one another over a good meal, and we think that Parkhurst will provide all of this.”
Parkhurst replaces Chartwells, which has been on campus since June of 2003.
