Amber Davis ’11 (Ravenna, Ohio) retreated to the bathroom to finish applying her makeup and begin fixing her hair for the evening.
“You look really good in black,” says roommate Lauren Franko ’13 (Broadview Heights, Ohio) after seeing Amber in her knee-length formal dress.
The two were preparing for the Sigma Kappa Spring Formal, which would be Amber’s last as a Marietta College undergraduate student. Though Amber was just about ready, Lauren was still waiting for her dress to arrive. She offered to help curl Amber’s long, dark tresses.
With Lady Gaga playing in the background, the sorority sisters danced and sang in their McCoy Hall dorm room, intermittently joking about which guy they wanted to dance with that evening.
A knock at the door drew an excited “EEEK!” out of Lauren, as she knew her “Little” Hannah Brewer was waiting outside with a dress she was lending her “Big” for the night.
Lauren quickly changed from her shorts and T-shirt into the black and white animal print dress. After helping Lauren zip into her dress, Hannah touched up Lauren’s makeup.
The next knock at the door stirred even more excitement. Amber’s date, William Charlton ’11 (New Vernon, NJ) appeared in the doorway. “You look ravishing,” Amber says, drawing an ornery grin from her date as a response. Shortly thereafter, more Sigma Kappa sisters arrived.
Before departing for the evening’s festivities with her group, Amber took a moment to reflect on what this night meant to her.
“Tonight is my senior formal and I am so excited to be surrounded by my beautiful friends and that we get to enjoy this night together,” Amber says. “This night is special to me and will be one I will always remember.”
