Wood County Pioneers set to stand up for 'New Look" football team

pioneer-day

When the Marietta College Pioneer football team storms onto the field to tee it up with the Capital Crusaders in the Ohio Athletic Conference home opener on Saturday, Sept. 21, they’ll have plenty of support from their Wood County (W.Va.) fan base thanks to a special promotion.

Alumni and their families from Parkersburg and surrounding areas are all invited to join in cheering on first-year head coach Andy Waddle and his 2013 edition of the Navy Blue and White at a special admission price of just $15 that includes a ticket and pre-game appetizers and beverages available at an end zone tent inside Don Drumm Stadium.

“There’s so much excitement over Coach Waddle and his team that we thought it would be a great opportunity to fire up our local Wood County fan base,” says Marietta College Director of Athletics, Larry Hiser. “We’ve have a core group of very supportive Wood County alumni and friends, and this is a great way to expand the network and cheer on the Pioneers.”

Pre-game festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m., so Wood County residents won’t want to miss the chance to visit with classmates and friends, watch the Parkersburg High School Band strut its stuff at halftime, and root for their hometown Pioneers.

You can reserve seats online or call (740) 376-4709, and the first 15 families to register will receive special event parking near the stadium! Still not sure? Well, look at who is planning to attend.
